!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on the FP reminded me I haven’t driven the Alfa in a loooooong time. It is getting an oil change and a new top before the end of the month, so at least my wallet has been hanging out with it. Sidenote: This 2.0L inline 4 takes 7.1 quarts of oil per change, excluding the 0.7 qt you can’t really get to.

So, did I read that right that there’s about a 2 quart buffer between full and oh sh**? It’s like Alfa knew they’d burn/loose oil. ;-)
All that said, it’s a beautiful car and I’m happy for you /jealous.

I too find it important for my wallet to spend quality time with my project car even when I can’t. I think having new parts laying in and around it makes it feel loved.

Fun fact! The dipstick actually reads in 2-quart intervals. When I first got it, the dipstick was reading low so I added a quart. When I checked it again about 100 miles later, it was only reading half. I thought I was losing a CRAP TON of oil before I realized that yes, the difference between “full” and “add” on the dipstick is 2 quarts.

I sincerely believe I could work on my cars for 2 months straight just with the parts I have on the sh elf.

Maybe a Italian thin g? The 1.8l Lampredi in the scorpion takes 6.5 quarts
It always sucks being away from your car but driving season should be here pretty quick, no?

Soon! Spring has been unusually cool here, but days are starting to slip into good convertible weather.

I understand that when these engines were designed oil quality wasn’t wonderful, so the only way to get the oil to behave consistently was simply to have lots of it in the system.

See my reply above. In fact people building racers with the Lampredi engine (131 Abarth replicas, for example) usually make the sump

Haven’t driven mine in months. Plus it burns oil (go figure) so it takes aplenty.
